Chernobyl “new tourist spot” pics receive flak

Soon after the HBO’s miniseries, hailed as the highest-rated TV series ever Chernobyl aired, the tourism at the place spiked up. After watching the show, to satisfy their curiosity people apparently, want to go and visit the nuclear disaster site.

This is craze is growing up too much that Instagram influencers are also flocking to Chernobyl and pictures from the worst nuclear disasters in history is all over the internet.

But the disturbing thing because of which the pictures are receiving criticism is irrelevant or proactive poses in which people are clicking them. These photos have been termed as “disrespectful”.

Clicking such poses in a place where thousands of people died is wrong.

One Twitter user posted: “If you look for photos by location Chernobyl on Instagram, you can find this kind of stuff,” tweeted lettipop along with such pictures. “I don’t know about you but I see a place like this and I do not stop crying for days. I do not know how you can stomach doing these kinds of photos.”

Another user commented: “People died there in a very horrific way, have some respect,”

The disaster caused anywhere between 4,000 to 200,000 deaths in the surrounding region. The empty shell of the (still irradiated) power plant is a reminder of all the lives lost. So it’s annoying when people click photos like this.

It has now reached the point that show’s creator Craig Mazin has also urged people to “Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed.”

We think this is really disrespectful, clicking some poses to promote your page at such a place where many people died, is not correct.

It is also a matter of their safety as well. Though the town is safe, but you never know.
