Shimla-Kalka is a 96Km rail route that comes under UNESCO World Heritage Site, apart from its scenic views and historical significance there is an added specialty as well. IRCTC has gifted something to its travelers, all major 15 railways station on the Shimla-Kalka heritage route will get free Wi-Fi. . Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the free Wi-Fi facility along with the ‘hop-on-hop-off’ service which will let passengers get down at any station and board another incoming train without purchasing new tickets.
These initiatives will help in boosting tourism on wayside stations like Barog, Solan, Shogi and so on. The CM also inaugurated various other modern facilities for Kalka-Shimla heritage railway line including a modern toilet complex.
The CM also laid the foundation stones of two lifts at Shimla railway station and the project for the renovation of Shimla extension station. On the occasion, he thanked Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal for taking interest in modernizing Shimla railway station beside upgrading Kalka-Shimla railway line.
The Shimla-Kalka rail ride has over 988 bridges and through 102 tunnels, which makes it a memorable journey.
