The capital city of the world’s smallest continent, Sydney is the oldest European settlement in Australia. The traditional indigenous inhabitants of Sydney Cove were the Cadigals. Also known as the Harbour City, Sydney is home to the iconic Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, which have further contributed to the immense popularity of Sydney as a tourist destination. Moreover, Sydney, which was a predominantly Anglo-Irish population earlier has now transformed into a multiethnic hub of business, creativity and culture.
Sydney experiences a temperate climate. Its weather is primarily influenced by its proximity to the ocean. Summers are warm and winters are usually mild. Rainfall is evenly spread throughout the year. However, the city is also prone to severe hail storms and wind storms. Though the temperate climate makes Sydney comfortable for travellers to visit any time of the year, mid-January to mid-April and October to mid-December are usually recommended as the best times.

Walking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the largest steel-arch bridge in the world, is a popular activity for both locals and tourists. Held by six million hard-working little rivets, Sydney Harbour Bridge has been central to the City of Sydney’s New Year’s Eve celebrations. Sydney Opera House, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site is considered a masterpiece of 20th century architecture. Inaugurated in 1973 and set in a waterscape, it is a multi-venue performing arts centre. Visitors can enjoy a Sydney Opera House Tour or go behind the scenes on the Backstage Tour. Central Quay is literally the centre of Sydney,being a stepping-off point for most attractions based around the harbour. On its southern side is a walkway that leads to the Sydney Opera House and Royal Botanical Gardens, while the northern side takes you to the Harbour Bridge and The Rocks.
As far as food in Sydney is concerned, from takeaway cafes to fine dining restaurants, the food served in each of these places is excellent and tingles the taste pallete with a variety of flavours. So, it is a must to try the food from both. Also, when when Sydney look for white wines from the Hunter Valley.
The beauty of Sydney is understated but it is only when you visit it, that you’ll realize how overwhelming the entire Sydney experience is. Sydney should definitely not be missed.
